This is the 4th Annual Fight the Good Fight 1 v 1 B-boy battle centered on the gospel of Jesus Christ. It will be Friday May 31st at 6pm in the Calvary Chapel East Anaheim gym. This is a FREE event to enter and will have a $200 cash prize for the winner!

Unchained 3-on-3 Event in Dallas, TX

The first annual “Unchained” bboy competition was held on Saturday, March 30th in Dallas, TX.

Michael Swalley, co-founder of BreakFree, who runs the Dallas chapter of the ministry, hosted the competition at a church called Bent Tree Bible Fellowship. The goal of Unchained was simple: to bless the bboy community of Texas, specifically the Dallas area through a 3-on-3 competition.

Through the generosity of our supporters, we were able to offering the following to those that attended Unchained:

–Free entrance to all who attended that day

–Free registration for the 3-on-3 competition

–Free “battle packs” to everyone who entered the 3-on-3 battle. The battle packs consisted of an energy drink, food, and the gospel of John

–Free Bibles and other spiritual books

–Free bottled water for everyone

–Free sandwich coupon to Chick-fil-A for anyone who attended

–We offered a $600 3-on-3 prize money and plaques for the first place crew, and a $100 prize to the bboy who danced the hardest throughout the event (also known as a “cypher king”)

–We brought in a great DJ from New York, and also had three well known Judges, two of whom are internationally known and they both held dance workshops to teach the bboys in this area

About 200 people came to the event, and we had 30 crews enter the competition, totaling 90 bboys who competed, with bboys from Dallas, Houston, and Austin areas in attendance. A crew from Houston, Havikoro, took first place, receiving both the prize money and plaques we had for the winners.

Not only did we desire to bless people by giving away free things, but we wanted to share the gospel in a clear and powerful way on Easter weekend. After the preliminary rounds of the competition, Michael shared the gospel with the crowd. The vast majority of the bboys are not Christians, and as an answer to prayer, most stayed to listen to the presentation! It was a huge blessing to see so many bboys attend the event, as well as hear afterwards how the event blessed them. Many commented on how great the event was and have asked us to do this again next year. We were encouraged by how many people, who never would have stepped foot in a church on Easter Sunday, were able to hear the gospel. Considering this was the first event BreakFree hosted in Dallas, we’d say it was a success!

Unchained Event Gospel Presentation

Battle Tested: 2 v 2 B-Boy Battle

Saturday, December 8th was the first annual Battle Tested Bboy competition. It was fantastic! We had bboy el nino from FLC and Energetic from Killafornia crew and bboy eddie from Long Beach judging the competition. El nino did a workshop teaching his insights and techniques with bboying before the competition. It was surreal to have el nino working at our event! There was a great turnout with many bboys and people who came to support this event.So there were 16 crews who represented in the 2 on 2 battles and it was sweet. Lots of talent came from all over the Cali area to compete. Most importantly, this event was centered on the gospel of Jesus Christ and Jon Sarinana preached the Word about his personal testimony. Jon shared his powerful story of how he came to Christ and before he knew Jesus personally he said ” I have a hole in my soul and nothing can fill it…” But Jesus met him in a powerful way and saved him from his sins. It was awesome to see all the bboys and people listening to the gospel as jon preached. As far the the event goes bangarang ended up winning the $500.00 1st place cash prize and they deserved it. Overall the Lord blessed the event and the gospel was preached and because of that, I rejoice!

“Battle Tested” 2 v 2 B-boy battle Dec. 8th

“Battle Tested” is a 2 v 2 B-boy Battle centered on the gospel of Jesus Christ. There will be a $500.00 cash prize. We got B-boy El Nino (Floor lords crew) coming out from Boston to put on a workshop before the battles and also to be one of the Judges! DJ Cre from AZ will be dropping some dope beats throughout the jam. Doors open at 11:30am, workshop starts at noon. Battles start at 1pm. There is a $5 entrance fee to get in. Break Free at Rock of Ages Festival in Napa

Break Free was invited to the Rock of Ages Festival in Napa, California. It was a great event that was centered around the Gospel of Jesus Christ. A week before the event happened we didn’t have a place to stay and we were supposed to already be housed. But the Lord really blessed us to stay at Dave and Cyndi’s house. We had just met them for the first time when we got there and they were incredibly hospitable to us. They had a beautiful home right by all the grape vineyards. As far as the event goes, there were many popular Christian artists such as Christafari, Super chick and Phil Joel. It was really awesome to perform alongside other on fire Christians who did there own action sports ministries. There were BMX and skateboarding ministries that we worked alongside while we were out there. The crew who was able to come out for Break Free was Vicente (Saint-e), Irving (Ar-7), Jojo (Yoyo), and Josh (beebop). Praise the Lord a large crowd was drawn and we did 5 rountines individually. One of the skateboarders we worked alongside was Tim Byrne who was super talented at freestyle skateboarding. He really got the crowd worked up and he did an excellent job sharing his testimony to the crowd. Then Brad shared the gospel to the crowd who was watching. Also, Vic Murphy was another gifted evangelist who did the BMX demo last. We had a great time serving the Lord and collaborating with other Believers! “Each one should use whatever gift He has received to serve others, faithfully administering Gods grace in its various forms.”-1 Peter 4:10

Break Free in Philadelphia

The city of brotherly love and the city of Rocky Balboa: Philadelphia! I was pumped up to go meet up with a Christian bboy crew out there and see if it was Gods will to partner up with them. Mike Swalley and his wife Ellen joined us there also which was awesome. Mike and I have been praying and planning for this trip for a long time. So Saturday Lem, who is part of the Christian bboy crew, put on a big 3 on 3 bboy battle centered on the Gospel that had a cash prize of $1500 for first place. Little did we all know how big of an event this would be! We prayed and asked the Lord to do far more than we could possibly ask or imagine and the great God we serve spoiled us. You probably wont recognize all of these bboy names I am going to mention but they are some of the top dancers in the world. Bboy el nino, gravity, Toyz, Domkey, and Flying Buddha are some of the guys who came down to dance. Russia, Boston, New York, and D.C. were some of the locations these bboys trekked over from to come to this competition. The Lord was drawing people unto himself. There was some incredible dancing going on throughout the night. One of my favorites was bboy El Nino from Boston. In my opinion he was on a whole different level than all of the other dancers there. So Lem did an intermission where she did a spoken word of sharing the Gospel through rap which connected to this culture really well. He did a great job. Then I got up on the mic and preached the Good News of Jesus Christ. I was wondering if people were going to walk out when I got up and shared but the amazing thing was, was that people stayed to listen! Most of the bboys were sitting down in a circular fashion listening to me share as if I were telling them a bed time story. The Lord moved powerfully thanks to your prayers! Many doors then were opened for us to share the Lord one on one with different bboys. We actually had a local bboy come up to us and tell us that he was so encouraged by our message that he wants to start reaching bboys with the gospel! All in all in was a great event. As far as partnering up the Lem and Chris in Philadelphia, it isn’t going to happen right now. Lem and Chris have commitments to other things in which they can commit to the level like Mike and I can. So we just came to a conclusion that it isn’t the right time to partner up officially with them. We had a great trip and was blessed that my wife and son could join up with us. One last fun thing that happened was that when we were in Philly at a popular street full of restaurants and stores we heard some break beats coming out of one of the stores. As we got lured in to the store it was actually a live DJ dropping the beats and the store had a perfectly slick floor for dancing. So what did we do? Mike, Chris and I started to break in the store! The manager loved that we were dancing to our surprise and a crowd from the street started to filter in to watch. It was a fun 15 min of breaking and the manager gave us free drinks. I was able to give him one of our break free gospel tracts as well. Overall it was a great trip and the Lord blessed it! “Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask of think, according to the power at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations forever and ever. Amen.”

I Got Skillz 4- Phoenix, AZ

This past weekend Break Free made it out to sunny Phoenix, Arizona for the 4th annual “I Got Skillz” 1 on 1 bboy battle centered on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It has been great to be able to continue this outreach in the heart of downtown Phoenix these past few years. Many bboys and people have heard the good news of Christ’s death and resurrection through this event by Gods grace. So this year, representing break Free in the competition was Josiah Huy (bboy yoyo), Erving (R7), Vicente (Saint-e), and Alex (Heavy). I (Josh) was able to be one of the judges along with my good friend Mark from Long Beach CA who came out with us and bboy drew from AZ. The battles were intense and full of explosive moves! It was a great turn out and probably the biggest of all the I Got Skillz outreaches in the past. Many of the AZ bboys did very well with their floor work style. Josiah (yoyo) rocked a much older bboy in the first round by doing his mills, head slide and head cartwheel!! Also, R7 did a really dope abstract set to wipe out his first round opponent. Alex and Vicente represented well but were not able to make it past the first round. In the 2nd round jojo faced C-Roc who was a dynamic bboy with many intricate moves and style. Yoyo did a great job but it was C-Roc who came out on top. R7 was knocked out by Sensai. And C-Roc ended up beating Sensai in the final battle to be the champion. Then Mark from Long beach shared the gospel and his testimony to the audience. It was great to see the bboys stay and listen to Marks message! Praise God a woman off the street who came in to watch got saved and I was able to share Christ with a young bboy. Fight the Good Fight 3

Last saturday we had a great bboy competition/outreach at Calvary Chapel East Anaheim. It was the third annual one on one Fight the good Fight bboy battle. We were blessed to have old school, veterans bboy don, bboy Iceman, and bboy Adverb judge the event. Dj audible dropped some dope beats as the DJ and Eddie from Saint city session was the MC. Everyone did a fantastic job. The event was a 1 on 1 event that was centered on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We had bboys from all over competing in this battle. We had bboy Lem from Philadelphia, Chicki from Guadalajara Mexico, Scabee and sentorock from Phoenix, and many locals rocking out to the music. There was a great variety of moves among the bboys. Sentorock had a lot of style in his dancing, chicki was very dynamic in his power moves and scaybee was amazing doing a little bit of everything. I (josh) battled vicente (saint-e)in the first round and it was interesting battling one of my own teammates but we had a lot of fun. Bboy chicki and bboy scaybee battled each other in the finals and scaybee won! Bboy don and bboy adverb did a broken word. Broken word is when you do a spoken word and breakdance at the same time. It was really cool to watch them articulate the truth of Gods word to poetry and dance. Lastly, lem shared his testimony and did a rendition of a crossmovement song to share the gospel. It was great event and was pleased to see the variety of bboys the Lord brought together. Our theme for the event was “Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, bot only one receieves the prize? Break Free in Arizona

The Lord has blessed Break Free to be able to dance at various high schools in the southern California area. But last week, Mike Swalley, JoJo and myself (Josh) were asked to dance/speak at Scottsdale Christian High school (SCA) in Arizona. Since I am originally from Scottsdale, I went to SCA from kindergarten all the way up to my senior year of high school. I spent many years at that school and I haven’t been back in about 6 years. We were asked to do two chapels (junior high/high school). So we did the usual thing, danced for the students to get them pumped up and then Mike preached about how to use your God given talents to further His kingdom. Then I preached the gospel and shared my testimony. Personally, it was cool to be back at my old school and seeing students respond to the gospel! I really loved serving alongside Mike and Jojo. Then leading up into that weekend the Young Adults group came out to serve at Craig Jones church, Calvary East Valley (CEV), in helping them with handing out flyers to promote the upcoming Easter service. Then Saturday evening, Break Free had Vicente, Kyle, jojo and myself doing a bboy workshop for CEV kids. Then we did a short breakdance demo during the Sunday morning service. It was a great week/weekend that the Lord blessed. “He Himself bore our sins in His body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness. By His wounds you have been healed.” 1 Peter 2:24
